Musk, a fervent advocate for the human colonization of Mars, has expressed his vision for establishing a self-sustaining ecosystem on the red planet, crucial for the future of civilization. He envisions SpaceX’s Starship facilitating frequent journeys to Mars and other destinations, suggesting that lunar missions could be achieved within five years.
SpaceX’s overarching objectives encompass establishing a lunar base, with Musk advocating for the creation of lunar settlements and Martian cities as part of humanity’s expansion beyond our solar system. He emphasizes the importance of establishing a permanent human presence on the Moon before embarking on voyages to Mars, hinting at the possibility of further endeavors beyond Earth’s orbit, possibly surpassing the capabilities of the International Space Station.

DRAGON OVERVIEW:
Up to seven people can travel to and from Earth orbit and beyond in the Dragon spacecraft. It is the first private spaceship to carry passengers to the space station and the only one that is currently in operation that can return substantial amounts of goods to Earth.

DRAGON TRUNK:
The spacecraft is supported during ascent by the Dragon’s trunk, which also transports unpressurized cargo. Solar panels adorn one side of the trunk, supplying Dragon with power both in flight and while it is stationary. The trunk stays joined to Dragon until just before it enters Earth’s atmosphere again.

DRAGON OF THE SPACESHIP:
People and ecologically sensitive cargo can be transported aboard the Dragon spaceship, also referred to as the pressurised portion. Eight SuperDracos power the spacecraft’s launch escape system, while Draco thrusters enable Dragon to manoeuvre while in orbit.

GETTING PEOPLE INTO SPACE
For the first time since 2011, SpaceX brought back to the United States the capability of transporting NASA humans to and from the International Space Station using domestic spacecraft in 2020. SpaceX’s Dragon spaceship can not only launch NASA astronauts into space, but it can also transport commercial astronauts to orbit, the International Space Station, and beyond.
OVERVIEW OF STARSHIP
The Starship spacecraft and Super Heavy rocket, developed by SpaceX, are a fully reusable transportation system that can transport people and goods to Mars, the Moon, and Earth orbit. With a maximum payload capacity of 250 metric tonnes disposable and 150 metric tonnes entirely reusable, Starship is the most potent launch vehicle ever created.

STARSHIP
Starship is the second stage of the Starship system and a fully reusable spacecraft. The vehicle can deliver crew and cargo to Earth orbit, the Moon, Mars, and beyond. It has an integrated payload section and is available in multiple configurations. Point-to-point transportation on Earth is another feature of Starship that allows for one-hour or less transit to any location on the globe.

VERY HEAVY:
The Starship launch system’s first stage, or rocket, is called Super Heavy. With 33 Raptor engines that run on subcooled liquid oxygen (LOX) and methane (CH4), Super Heavy is completely reusable and will return to the launch site by reentering Earth’s atmosphere.

RAPTOR ENGINE:
With double the thrust of the Falcon 9 Merlin engine, the Raptor engine is a reusable staged-combustion engine powered by methane and oxygen. It powers the Starship system. Six engines—three Raptor and three Raptor Vacuum (RVac) engines—will power the starship. RVac engines are made to operate in space vacuums. 33 Raptor engines—13 in the middle and the rest 20 encircling the booster’s rear end—will power Super Heavy.
